ABOUT MRS. GRIFFEY

Leanne Griffey is the Orchestra Director at Kinard where she has taught since 2010. Before coming to Kinard, Leanne taught Orchestra, Choir, Music Exploration, and team-taught Band for six years in various public schools in Greeley & Fort Collins, CO and Williamsburg, VA. She has also taught private violin, viola, and voice lessons throughout her career. Leanne earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder and has completed graduate coursework in Conducting and Performance. She is currently President of the Colorado chapter of American String Teachers' Association. Leanne is married to Kevin, a Controls Engineer, and together they have a daughter who is attending Kansas State University. The Griffey family also includes Penelope, the most playful calico cat you'll ever meet, and Quincy, the grey tuxedo cat with an insatiable appetite!

When Leanne is not teaching, she is often performing on violin, viola, or voice. She has performed with many Orchestras including the Longmont Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Cheyenne Symphony, Fort Collins Symphony, Richmond (VA) Symphony, and the Williamsburg (VA) Symphonia. She served as Concertmaster for the Greeley Chamber Orchestra for 15 years and is a member of the string quartet, Bellacordia.
The Griffey family loves to ski! Leanne and her family are also avid concert-goers and enjoy listening to a wide variety of musical styles. Although she still holds onto her lifelong love of dance, Leanne practices running, strength training, hiking, and biking to maintain her health and sanity. If she found any time outside of the aforementioned activities, she would love to travel more, brush up on her French, scrapbook, and knit.
Poudre School District has a remarkable history and tradition of excellence in Music Education and Leanne was blessed to have been a student of some of the finest Music Educators in the world here in Fort Collins. These teachers, along with Leanne’s family history of educators and musicians, shaped Leanne’s identity. She particularly enjoys guiding middle school students to greater independence but are still in the exciting, early stages of learning to play new instruments. She is thrilled to be at Kinard where Music is valued and appreciated. Guided by her own PSD experiences, her wonderful former teachers, and the devoted students and families here, she aspires to raise Kinard’s Orchestra program to new heights!
