INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS
Welcome to Kinard Middle School's Orchestra Program!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to thank you for choosing Kinard Core Knowledge as your Middle School! Here at Kinard we are very proud of our Music program and we value Music as one of the Core Subjects taught at our school. All students entering 6th grade at Kinard will participate in either Choir, Band, or Orchestra for the full year. This page is designed to give students planning to attend Kinard next year more information about the Orchestra program. TIMELINE for NEW 6th GRADE STUDENTS
Instrument Selection
Placement Events for the 2025-26 school year have passed.
(They were Feb. 27 & 28)

​Did you miss our placement events?
It's not too late to be in Orchestra!
​
Two options:
1) Make an appointment with Boomer Music (970) 223-2424 to try the instruments at their store. Ask to meet with one of their excellent String Educators: Bob Kreutz, Kris Rangel, or Sarah Doddridge.
2) Email Mrs. Griffey to make an appointment to try instruments at Kinard. Appointments for instrument try-outs are not available until March 31 or later and must be after school (3:15 PM or later.)

The instruments taught in Orchestra are: Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass.
Confirmation
May 2025
After the Placement Events, Mrs. Griffey will review the students' "score cards" for instrument choice and assess instrumentation balance for the incoming class. Mrs. Griffey will then send confirmation emails to every student. This email will also contain information about Summer Music, instrument rental, supply lists, and more.
July 14 - August 1, 2025
Once you have received your confirmation email, you should register for PSD's Summer Music program!
Registration information will be available in May.
