INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS
Welcome to Kinard Middle School's Orchestra Program!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to thank you for choosing Kinard Core Knowledge as your Middle School! Here at Kinard we are very proud of our Music program and we value Music as one of the Core Subjects taught at our school. All students entering 6th grade at Kinard will participate in either Choir, Band, or Orchestra for the full year. This page is designed to give students planning to attend Kinard next year more information about the Orchestra program. February 27 or 28, 2025
6 - 8 PM (arrive early)

Placement Events!
​Everyone is welcome to participate in the Orchestra Placement Events where students have the opportunity to try all four of the string instruments taught in Orchestra!
Students will be guided through the experience by local private music instructors as well as listen to a short demonstration of each instrument and have an opportunity to ask questions.

At the end of the event, students will turn in their provided "score card" to Mrs. Griffey to indicate their instrument preference.

NO SIGN-UP REQUIRED for ORCHESTRA PLACEMENT EVENTS!
Both evenings are the same; come to the one that best fits your schedule.
The instruments taught in Orchestra are: Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass.

May 2025
After the Placement Events, Mrs. Griffey will review the students' "score cards" for instrument choice and assess instrumentation balance for the incoming class. Mrs. Griffey will then send confirmation emails to every student. This email will also contain information about Summer Music, instrument rental, supply lists, and more.
July/Aug 2025 exact dates TBD
Once you have received your confirmation email, you should register for PSD's Summer Music program!
Registration information will be available in May.
