INFORMATION FOR NEW STUDENTS
Welcome to Kinard Middle School's Orchestra Program!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to thank you for choosing Kinard Core Knowledge as your Middle School! Here at Kinard we are very proud of our Music program and we value Music as one of the Core Subjects taught at our school. All students entering 6th grade at Kinard will participate in either Choir, Band, or Orchestra for the full year. This page is designed to give students planning to attend Kinard next year more information about the Orchestra program. The instruments taught in Orchestra are: Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass.

All incoming sixth grade students are invited to our Placement Events where they will have the opportunity to try all four of the Orchestra string instruments! Students will be led through a guided experience by local string instructors as well as listen to a short demonstration of each instrument and have an opportunity to ask questions.
At the end of the evening, students will indicate their instrument preference to Mrs. Griffey.
NO SIGN-UP REQUIRED for ORCHESTRA PLACEMENT NIGHTS!

May 2024
After the Placement Events, Mrs. Griffey will review the students' "score cards" for instrument choice and assess instrumentation balance for the incoming class. Mrs. Griffey will then send confirmation emails to every student. This email will also contain information about Summer Music, instrument rental, supply lists, and more.
TENTATIVE: July 22 - August 7, 2024
Once you have received your confirmation email, you should register for PSD's Summer Music program!
Registration information will be available in May.
